I finished both Always and Forever and Phantom. Like I expected, they were quite sad, tragic books, especially Phantom. All that pain, agony, misery, and cruelty Erik went through as he grew up, specifically by his own mother. It makes you wonder if she had treated him like a human being, things might have been different.
For those who want to know a little bit about each book, I'll give them a little blurb.
Always and Forever is actually a novel with two stories, one from the perspective of Melissa, who finds she has leukemia. The second story is told from the viewpoint of Jory, Melissa's friend. Both stories are beautiful and definitely tug on your heartstrings, the author is really good at that. I read her work before so that's why I wanted to finally read Always and Forever because it had been sitting there forever, collecting dust.
Phantom is the story of the Phantom of the Opera, starting from his childhood. There are several viewpoints in this book; first his mother, than Erik when he's young, then Nadir, the Persian, back to Erik, then to both Erik and Christine, and finally, Raoul. Susan Kay, the author, did a phenomenal job telling his story and all the hardships he had to face. He certainly didn't lead a normal life--at all. If you are a Phantom fan, I highly recommend this book to you, it's worth the effort.
Anyhow, I am now on Lolita. This is going to be one very interesting read.
Tally ho!
